A NEW YEAR’S DAY MESSAGE
FROM IRENE ZABYTKO
As some of you may have known, I the had honor of receiving a U.S. Fulbright research grant for work on my next book, and which allowed me several opportunities to return and film in Chornobyl while I was living in Ukraine in 2016-2017.
Much has changed since our last visit to Chornobyl. The most significant is the new sarcophagus that fully covers the damaged nuclear reactor that exploded in 1986.
We’ve also discovered other changes—some progressive, some highly disturbing which we will further explore in our next shoot in 2018.
Please know that we are still intent on continuing and completing our documentary about this enduring disaster site, and we will keep you more updated and involved in the coming months.
Meanwhile, thank you for your continuing support of our documentary film project. All very best wishes to you all for a peaceful 2018.
ABOUT “LIFE IN THE DEAD ZONE”
In 2000, I wrote a novel, THE SKY UNWASHED about the Chornobyl survivors who returned to their irradiated village inside the Chornobyl “dead zone.” LIFE IN THE DEAD ZONE is the film documentary about the real-life survivors who are still impacted by Chornobyl.
